RESERVE FIRE FIGHTER
PAGE
Lockwood Fire and Rescue currently supplements fire protection to Lockwood with a force of reserve firefighters. Lockwood is known as having one of the most unique reserve programs around, as our reserves are required to attend bimonthly trainings, meetings and work a minimum of 24 combined hours per month at the fire station with the career firefighters. Reserves receive intensive training in fire suppression, rescue, and hazardous materials response. Many of our reserves are also EMT certified.
Lockwood Fire has up to 20 reserves on the roster at any given time. We hold a test for new reserve firefighters as needed to assist the career staff. When a test date is scheduled applicants will be contacted to begin the process.
The testing process includes a physical agility test, a 65ft ladder clime, a black-out drill, an oral interview, and a background check. Candidates who successfully complete this process are recommended for placement on the roster as vacancies allow. New reserves are subject to a six month probationary period. A description of the physical agility test is attached to each application. Prospective candidates are encouraged to begin a physical fitness program long before the test in order to be successful.
If you are interested in becoming a reserve firefighter and serving the Lockwood community, you are encouraged to visit the fire station and pick up an application. You may also download an application from this site by clicking on the link below. Reserves are not required to live in Lockwood but must be able to respond to the fire station within twenty minutes of a page.
