Accomplishments

Beginning in the fall of 2001, the Chief and your elected fire board, in cooperation with the local firefighters, successfully implemented a fully Advanced Life Support Ambulance into the department. In addition to improving efficiency of the department and generating additional revenue for the Lockwood Fire District, the ambulance has greatly improved response times to emergency medical calls here in the community resulting in saved lives.

The drive and commitment of each firefighter made Lockwood Fire Department the first ambulance service in the county to bring 12 lead EKGs and Capnography to their patients in the field. Soon after other ambulance services in the area followed Lockwood’s lead.

Because the ambulance is financially self supporting, it has not only paid for itself and all of it’s own equipment, but has actually generated additional revenue for the Lockwood Fire District.

In addition, the local firefighters have aggressively and successfully pursued federal grant money to purchase and replace badly needed fire fighting equipment and gear.

Their efforts alone have saved the district’s tax payers over $300,000 in the last 5 years.

Community Care

Your Lockwood Fire Department involves itself within the community throughout the year. Recent events include the annual bike rodeo where dozens of bicycle helmets were given away to children here in Lockwood.

Lockwood Fire has offered free local Health Fairs for the community which included an extensive health check including Blood pressure screening, Pulse, Hearing, Vision, Blood Glucose and Lab tests. And as always the public is always welcome for station tours and free blood pressure checks.

Lockwood Fire has a long tradition of bringing fire prevention and education to Lockwood School. Children are provided with puppet shows, a visit by Sparky the Fire Dog and they are taught about fire safety.

Lockwood Fire also provides free fire extinguisher classes to high risk businesses.

The fire department has donated dozens of smoke detectors to local Lockwood residents. The Fire Department will continue to offer smoke detectors free of charge and install them to any residents who may not be able to afford to purchase them on their own.

Each year, your local firefighters look forward to bringing Santa Clause to the residents of Lockwood. Every year your local firefighters help Santa gather goodies and package over one thousand goody bags to give out to the        children of Lockwood.

Reserves

Your local full time firefighters help to train and equip the reserve firefighters who assist with the fire station duties as well as assisting with emergency fire and medical calls.  The reserves are required to pass several excruciating physical challenges in order to be accepted onto the fire department. Along with that, reserves are required to meet monthly training minimums in order to remain on the department. Lockwood takes pride in their reserve program. For it has built a reputation for helping to train many reserves who have successfully moved up the ladder to build successful firefighting careers on various departments throughout the state.
