Reserve Testing

PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST

Applicants must sign a "Physical Agility Liability Release" form before they can participate in the physical agility part of the testing process. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS. Applicants should wear long pants or sweat pants, T-shirt, sweat shirt, rubber soled activity shoes, no shorts. It is suggested that the applicant eat a light breakfast, and refrain from drinking any beverage that contains alcohol prior to testing.

COMPONENTS OF THE PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST

PART 1: PRELIMINARY SCREENING

Ladder Climb 65’:

Climb a 65’ aerial ladder to the top and back down. No time limit. Test is designed to measure the applicant’s ability to climb and withstand heights.

PENALTY: Declining or not completing this test will disqualify the applicant.

 

Confined Space:

Applicants are required to move through a simulated confined space. No time limit. Test is designed to measure the applicant’s ability to function in small, dark, confined spaces.

PENALTY: Declining or not completing this test will disqualify the applicant.

PART 2: PHYSICAL TEST STATIONS

Time is allowed to complete the following five stations in five (5) minutes. Applicants will be required to complete these activities wearing the following protective equipment: gloves, helmet, turnout coat, and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) that will be provided. Several sizes will be available, however, we cannot ensure an exact fit.

 

Station 1: Extension Ladder Pull:

Extend the ladder extension by rope, hand over hand, up to complete extension, and then lower extension one time. (24’ ladder mounted on wall).

PENALTY: 10 seconds: Letting ladder slip three or more rungs

                   20 seconds Letting ladder continue to the ground

 

 

                                                                                               Station 2:  Hose Drag:

Drag two hundred feet of 2 1/2 inch hose with nozzle

attached for a distance of two hundred feet.

PENALTY: Failure to complete the test disqualifies the applicant.

 

 

 

Station 3: Operating Fire Hydrant:

Turn a hydrant wrench eight complete revolutions.

 PENALTY: Failure to complete the test disqualifies the applicant.

 

 

 

 

Station 4: Ladder Placement:   

Place a 14’ roof ladder on ladder brackets on side of engine.

PENALTY: 10 seconds: Not placing ladder correctly.

20 seconds: Letting ladder touch the ground.

 

Station 5: Roof Ventilation Simulation:

Using an eight-pound hammer, the applicant is required to move

the Kaiser Sled completely in one direction.

PENALTY: Failure to complete the test disqualifies the applicant.

 

 

Station 6: Mannequin Drag:

Drag mannequin backwards sixty feet, turn ninety degrees and continue backwards

 for another sixty feet. The total length of this test is one hundred twenty feet to finish line.

PENALTY: Failure to complete the test disqualifies the applicant.
